Poland in Constitutional Crisis Over Top Court
Poland is in a political standoff after the head of its Constitutional Tribunal, Bogdan Święczkowski, an ally of the right-wing opposition, was suspended for a month on Friday along with his deputy. Police were sent to secure the court.
President Karol Nawrocki turned his plane back mid-flight to Senegal, calling it a "forcible takeover." Protesters rallied outside the court overnight, and police detained three.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk vowed "no compromise" on rule of law. Nawrocki held cross-party talks Saturday, which Tusk skipped, with no breakthrough.
