Flu Season Off to an Early Start in New York as Hospitalizations Rise
New York's flu season has started earlier than expected, with more than 10,800 cases reported statewide so far. In the week ending Oct. 24, there were 4,172 cases, up 13% from the week before. Flu hospitalizations jumped 40% in the same week, to 326, with 758 so far this season.
State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald has declared the flu prevalent in New York. Fewer than half of adults got a flu shot last year, and officials are urging eligible New Yorkers to get vaccinated.
