California Man Pleads Guilty to Attempting to Support ISIS, Planned Synagogue Killing
Emad Akhtar, 34, of Stockton, California, pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
Prosecutors say he plotted to kill a synagogue attendee whom he believed had served in the IDF, although that belief was never verified.
Akhtar allegedly surveilled the intended victim and discussed the murder with an undercover operative posing as an ISIS representative.
He later provided two loaded handguns, six magazines, binoculars and $400 to the operative and pledged allegiance to ISIS.
He faces up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for February 26, 2027.
