The U.S. military is conducting near-daily air and naval operations to escort commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, with fighter jets, electronic warfare aircraft, surveillance planes and helicopters operating from the USS George Washington, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Washington Post reports that the 82nd Airborne Division is coordinating shipping operations from a command center in the UAE. Commercial vessels assemble off the UAE coast before traveling through designated routes with tracking systems disabled, transferring cargo in the Gulf of Oman and returning to the Persian Gulf.
